Did you know that 11 February is the International Day for Women and Girls in Science? On this day in 2015, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to ensure equal participation of women in science and to increase women's involvement in scientific activities.

According to Eurostat, there were almost 6.6 million female scientists and engineers working in the EU in 2020 - 254,500 more than in 2019. We can only be proud that Lithuania continues to lead the EU in the number of women working in science and technology with 63.7%. Latvia is in second place (62.9%), followed by North-Eastern Bulgaria (60.4%), the Azores (59.6%) and Estonia (59.5%)).

Currently, 47% of all researchers working at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the VU are women (the total number of researchers currently working at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration is 51). And although Lithuania still lags behind the EU Member States in terms of women's career achievements, the faculty's statistics are also encouraging: "There are currently 7 male professors and as many as 10 female professors." - Dr Ignas Zimaitis, Vice-Dean of Science, calculates.

However, in order to ensure that young women scientists have the same opportunities for a successful scientific career as men, it is important not to focus on gender quotas, but to change the attitude: to create a favorable environment and conditions for every person and to seek the support and understanding of the academic community," says the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Aida Mačerinskienė. "It is no longer news that the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration is able to enable administrative staff and employees to combine contact work with telework. We are also actively looking for other ways to create even better conditions for our academics, so we organise our studies in contact, distance and hybrid ways. On the other hand, economics or management sciences are very favorable to women, with plenty of room for women's innate strengths."
