Find a degree programme at Vilnius University
When choosing a degree programme, pay attention to programme-specific requirements that must be fulfilled during your application. Keep in mind that each applicant can choose up to three study programmes. The study programmes available for admission can be found here.
Prepare required documents
All applicants have to fulfil general admission requirements and programme specific requirements (if applicable). Programme specific requirements are listed under each programme description.

School (secondary or equivalent) graduation certificate and marks sheet/list (academic transcript). If the applicant is currently studying in the final year of high school/secondary school and their school cannot issue a final graduation diploma before the application deadline, they should submit the recent transcript of academic records and the certificate indicating the date of receiving a final secondary school certificate. Please contact Admission Officer () to find out whether it is possible to submit final diploma later (each case will be considered individually). All documents issued in a language other than English or Lithuanian should be supplemented with an official translation. The translation is considered to be official when it is bound together with the certified true copy of the original document and is confirmed by the translator's signature. Documents issued in English or Lithuanian must be certified true copies and do not require translation. |

The applicant is required to submit a motivation letter (1200-4000 characters). |

If you are a native speaker and/or if the English language was the medium of instruction in your previous studies, you will be exempt from providing an English language test score.

The receipt is required to prove your payment of 100 EUR application fee. |

The copy of your passport or ID card must be certified. |
You must bring along the original educational documents and certified copies of the documents (in the original language and its translations in English). The international admsissions office may require the documents to be presented in person. Please also note that you may be asked to request your previous Secondary school/home University/testing board to mail your official academic transcripts in a sealed and stamped envelope directly to Vilnius University (Office of International Admissions, Universiteto str. 3, LT-01513, Vilnius, Lithuania).
Pay the application fee
The application fee is 100 EUR per application (each applicant can choose up to three programmes within one application).
An online application will be processed only after the application fee is collected. The application fee is non-refundable.
The invoice is paid after adding the programmes to the application. Application fee payments are accepted only through the Flywire payment platform.

Note: Only full applications submitted before the corresponding deadline are accepted - all of the requirements listed above must be fulfilled to have the application considered for admission.

Wait while we check
After you have successfully uploaded all necessary documents via our online application system https://apply.vu.lt, your educational documents will be processed for the academic assessment and recognition. The International Admissions Office can verify the authenticity and accuracy of the documents you provided. We might contact the document issuing authority and/or Centre for Qualitty Assessment in Higher Education for more information about your qualification. More information on the recognition of foreign academic qualifications you can find here. Final admission results will be announced within 30 working days after the submission of the completed Application. An application is considered to be completed when all of the documents are submitted and the application is under the status "Submitted".
Successful applicants will receive acceptance letters.
If you are applying for several programmes at the same time, you can be admitted only for one programme according to your priority list and you receive only one acceptance letter.
Acceptance letters or rejection notifications will be sent via the online application system https://apply.vu.lt.
Admission criteria: grades, motivation letter, English proficiency test results (for programmes taught in English) and, if applicable, work experience in the field of the chosen study programme and/or the proof of fulfilled specific programme requirements (please check programme description).
Confirm your acceptance
Students are obliged to confirm if they accept the study offer within 7 working days.
Pay the tuition fee
After you have confirmed your decision to study, you should transfer the tuition fee for the first study year of studies. The invoice will be sent via the online application system.
Tuition fees for the first year of studies must be paid within 15 calendar days after the day you receive an invitation to study (pre-acceptance letter).
After the student pays the tuition fee, our International Relations Office provides the necessary information related to obtaining a temporary residence permit in Lithuania and sends a mediation letter to the student by e-mail (for non-EU citizens).
Arrange your arrival
Things to consider:
– All international students have to apply for a visa, temporary residence permit or certificate of temporary residence in the Republic of Lithuania depending on their citizenship and the length of their studies at Vilnius University. More information.

For EU/EFTA citizens
Citizens of the Republic of Lithuania or other member states of the European Union (EU), European Free Trade Association (EFTA), persons (non-EU/EFTA) granted a right of permanent residence in the Republic of Lithuania, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the Diaspora and people of Lithuanian origin, who wish to apply for state-funded places, should apply through Lithuania's national joint admission, carried out by The Lithuanian Higher Institutions Association for Organizing Joint Admission (LAMA BPO).

Choose a degree programme to apply for
The study programmes you can apply for on the LAMA BPO admission system can be found in these lists:
- Study programmes conducted in the Lithuanian language.
- Study programmes conducted in the English language.
Note: there are no state-funded study places in the Medicine and Dentistry study programmes. If you wish to apply for one of these programmes, please proceed with the admission procedure for non-EU/EFTA applicants.
When choosing where you want to study you have to prioritize your choices, meaning that to be considered for admission you have to list at least one study program with at least one type of funding. Please note that since the admission procedure is a contest, the order of study places and priorities that you include are highly important: the eligibility is evaluated starting from the first item on the list. You will be given only one offer to study during one admission round.
Recognition of foreign qualifications
Contact the Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education (SKVC) regarding academic recognition of foreign qualifications (SKVC contacts: A. Goštauto g. 12, Vilnius, phone +370 5 210 4772, e-mail ). The process of conversion may take a lot of time, so please make sure to apply for it right after 25th of May (which is the start date of receiving requests for conversion). Please visit the SKVC website for the documents needed for academic verification and conversion of your grades.
Each applicant that has studied in Lithuanian secondary education institution must meet the competitive score requirements that are listed by each study programme description in Lithuanian language. The same rule applies to applicants with foreign qualifications although the competitive score may be calculated differently - the Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education (SKVC) shall find an equivalent of each required subject during the conversion of the grades. If the Lithuanian language exam is not taken, the corresponding state national language test shall be taken instead.
Proficiency in Lithuanian or English
For admission to study programmes held in Lithuanian: please contact the Department of Lithuanian Studies at the Faculty of Philology at Vilnius University to be able to take a Lithuanian language proficiency test. You may take one of the Lithuanian Language Courses for a semester or even a year if you do not reach the level of proficiency required for admission. More information
You will be exempt from providing proof of proficiency in Lithuanian language if you will have taken the State Lithuanian language exam or if you will have a proof of a reached B2 level from a competent institution.
For admission to study programmes held in English: If you have taken an International language test make sure to upload the documents that prove your score to the LAMA BPO system: click “International Language Test” and upload a copy of the certificate.
Preparing the documents for admission
The documents that have to be submitted to the LAMA BPO admission system are:
- Documents issued by the Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education (SKVC) evidencing secondary education or equivalent received in non-Lithuanian higher education schools (except for the persons applying with a European Baccalaureate Diploma);
- A certificate issued by the Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education regarding recognition of study subjects and grades conversion;
- For applicants to study programmes held in Lithuanian - a certificate issued by Vilnius University regarding the test of Lithuanian language or document issued by other competent authority (an embassy, municipality or officially registered Lithuanian community of respectful country);
- A copy of a document evidencing the citizenship of an EU/EFTA member country or the UK, or the status of a family member of the Republic of Lithuania, the European Union, a state of the European Free Trade Association or the United Kindom.

If you wish to apply for studies conducted in the Lithuanian language you should apply via the joint admission carried out by The Lithuanian Higher Institutions Association for Organizing Joint Admission (LAMA BPO).
- If you are a citizen of the Republic of Lithuania or another member country of the European Union (EU) or European Free Trade Association (EFTA), a person (non-EU/EFTA) granted a right of permanent residence in the Republic of Lithuania, child, grandchild or great-grandchild of the Diaspora or person of Lithuanian origin you can apply for both state-funded and non-state-funded study places.
- If you do not fall into any of the mentioned categories you can only apply for non-state funded study places.

Pay the application fee. If you have completed your education in Lithuania, you have to pay 45 EUR. The application of 100 EUR has to be paid if you have obtained your secondary school diploma outside of Lithuania. The payment is higher since your grades need to be converted and the education verified. The fees only apply if you have not paid registration fees in other admission rounds. If you have done so or already have your secondary school education verified and grades converted, please inform the Admissions Office. |

Register for the entrance examination. The programmes that will require entrance examination will be announced before the application System opens. You have to register for entry examination while making an application at the LAMA BPO admission system no later than 24 hours before the scheduled date of examination. You will be able to choose the act time and place on the System as well. You would not be able to apply for admission at the corresponding programme in the case of failure in the entrance examination. Note: in the case of not being able to arrive for entrance examination please contact the Admissions Office immediately. |

Complete your Learning Agreement. Please note that passport or ID card with original copies is required as well as the registration fee payment receipt of 45 EUR. In the case of an under-age student, the legal tutor shall come with the prospective student to make the agreement OR the student may come alone if he/she has a certificate from public notary stating the tutors will for the prospective student to sign the Learning Agreement. Alert! If you have already signed a Learning Agreement from the Main or Additional admission rounds but prefer the second invitation for studies, you have to terminate the first Agreement.
