Narmin Mammadova, a vibrant 22-year-old from Azerbaijan, has a story that reflects the transformative power of international education. Over three years ago, Narmin embarked on an adventure that would change her life, leaving her home to pursue higher education in Lithuania. What started as a temporary Erasmus experience blossomed into a long-term love affair with a country rich in culture, academia, and opportunities.

Narmin’s academic journey began at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), where she completed her Bachelor’s in Public Administration. Despite her initial focus on politics, Narmin soon realized her true passion lay elsewhere. “Marketing and communication have always inspired me,” she explains, highlighting her decision to dive into the marketing world both in Lithuania and Azerbaijan. Driven by this passion, she is now pursuing her Master’s in Marketing and Integrated Communication at Vilnius University’s Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEBA).

Her first experience in Lithuania, as an Erasmus student, was a revelation. “It was love at first sight,” Narmin recalls. The culture, the university system, and the vibrant atmosphere left a lasting impression. After that initial semester at KTU, she was determined to immerse herself further and transferred her studies to Lithuania. Her desire for an international education also led her to spend an Erasmus semester at Masaryk University in Brno, deepening her appreciation for academic diversity. “I’ve never looked back,” she reflects.

While Narmin initially studied Public Administration, her heart was always in marketing. Working in the field made her realize she thrived on creativity and strategy rather than political science. With experience already under her belt, she felt a strong desire to strengthen her theoretical foundation. “My friend recommended FEBA, the top faculty in Lithuania,” she says, a decision bolstered by earning a Lithuanian state scholarship from the Education Exchange Fund and a €1000 award for newly admitted students. This recognition validated her dedication and hard work.

Narmin’s academic experience at FEBA has been nothing short of inspiring. She speaks with admiration about the faculty, describing the professors as “mind-blowing” not only for their vast knowledge but for their genuine passion for teaching. “They treat us like equals, and it feels like we’re learning together,” she shares. This collaborative approach has fueled her motivation to grow both academically and personally. One standout for Narmin is Dr. Vatroslav Škare, whose Digital Marketing Communication class brought theory to life with real-world assignments. She also appreciates Sigitas Urbonavičius, the head of her program, who designed the curriculum and remains a supportive, approachable presence.

The educational environment at FEBA differs significantly from what Narmin experienced back home in Azerbaijan. She notes the emphasis on research and critical thinking in Lithuania, where the goal is not just to earn a degree but to cultivate an analytical mindset. The international setting further enriches the experience, bringing together students from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

Adjusting to life in Lithuania came with challenges, particularly the frigid weather and the reserved nature of the local people. Yet, Narmin has come to admire the country’s discipline and advanced digital infrastructure, making everyday tasks incredibly efficient. Her natural extroversion made social integration relatively easy, and her knack for networking, honed through her international experiences, has helped her build meaningful connections with people from around the world. “Vilnius feels like an international hub,” she remarks, where hearing different languages, especially English, is part of daily life.

FEBA has played a crucial role in supporting Narmin and other international students. She praises the faculty’s efforts in making newcomers feel welcome, from orientation events to accessible resources and a supportive student association. The warm and well-organized campus environment makes it easy for students to focus on both academics and social activities.

Narmin’s involvement extends beyond the classroom. As an international ambassador for her faculty, she channels her marketing mindset into promoting the university. Her enthusiasm for student engagement is evident, having also served as an ambassador at KTU. Beyond Lithuania, Narmin’s education has taken her to various European institutions, including a BIP program in Portugal, a micro-challenge in Strasbourg, and think-tank events in the Netherlands, experiences that have shaped her worldview and professional aspirations.

Today, Lithuania feels like home to Narmin. She’s built a life in Vilnius, working in the marketing sector and envisioning a future where she continues to grow professionally. Her goal is to stay in Lithuania for at least five more years, aiming for permanent residency and continued career development.

Narmin’s journey is a testament to the richness of international education. She encourages others to consider FEBA, where top-tier academics and a diverse environment make for an unparalleled experience. “Be ready to work hard,” she advises, “but also enjoy every moment!” For her, the puzzle pieces of education, work, and life in Lithuania are falling into place, and the joy lies in seeing how it all connects.
