We are happy to invite you to the research seminar by the Department of Management. On December 15th  Asta Stankevičienė and Darius Ruželė will present the topic “Impact of remote work on individual work performance in banking sector” in VU TechHub conference room.

Brief overview of the seminar

Purpose: This study aimed to explore effects of working remote to employee job satisfaction, engagement and individual work performance in banking sector.

Design/methodology/approach: The sample comprised of 406 bank employees in five countries: Lithuania, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Sweden. We did confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to test data quality. Then, we used CB-SEM based multiple regression analysis, mediation analysis and moderation analysis to test hypotheses.

Findings: Analysis of empirical data showed that remote work intensity has positive impact on job satisfaction, negative impact on engagement and has no significant impact on individual performance. In addition, mediation analysis proved that job satisfaction partially mediates impact of remote work intensity on engagement, and the total effect of remote work intensity on engagement is negative. In addition, remote work intensity acts as a significant moderator that positively moderates influence of job satisfaction on engagement.

Originality/value: The original finding of this study was the discovery that the remote work acts as a moderator for the impact of job satisfaction on the engagement and consequently on the IWP.

Research limitations/implications: A limitation of the moderation analysis was to consider employee performance as a composite variable, instead of considering three dimensions namely task performance, context related performance and counterproductive performance.

Practical implications: For business practitioners this study provides valuable knowledge on how to organize work in a way where working remote does not negatively affect employee work performance.

Key words: Remote work, Work satisfaction, Work engagement, Employee work performance
